How to Use Page Flow in statpx to Find Navigation Dead-Ends
A pageview count tells you a page was visited. It does not tell you what visitors did the moment after — whether they moved deeper into your site or gave up and left. Page Flow in statpx answers that by tracking the most common next-page transitions from any URL, then ranking your top entry and exit pages by session volume. What Page Flow Shows
Open flow.php from the sidebar of any site and you'll find two connected views. The transition view shows, for any page you select, the pages visitors went to immediately afterward — ranked by how many sessions made that exact jump. The entry and exit tables below it show your top pages ranked by how often they were the first page of a session (entry) or the last page before the visitor left (exit), over your selected date range.
Together, these three numbers — where visitors arrive, what they click next, and where they eventually leave — form a map of how your site is actually navigated in practice, as opposed to how your site map or navigation menu was designed to be navigated.
Reading Top Entry and Exit Pages
Entry pages ranked high by session volume are your effective front doors — often not the homepage, but a specific blog post, landing page, or product page that search or social traffic lands on directly. Knowing your real top entry pages matters because that's where first impressions are actually being formed, and where a weak headline or slow load time costs you the most.
Exit pages are the inverse signal. A high-traffic exit page isn't automatically bad — a "Thank you" or checkout confirmation page is supposed to be a common exit. But when a page deep in a multi-step process (like step 2 of 4 in a signup flow, or a pricing page right before checkout) shows up near the top of your exit ranking, that's the page where visitors are quitting instead of continuing, and it deserves direct attention.
Filtering Transitions from Any URL
Select a specific page path in the transition view and statpx shows you exactly where visitors went next, ranked by transition volume. This is the most direct way to answer "what happens after someone lands on this page?" — pick your pricing page and see whether most sessions move on to signup, bounce entirely, or wander back to the homepage instead. If a large share of sessions from an important page transition to somewhere unrelated to your intended next step, that's evidence your call-to-action isn't compelling enough, or isn't where visitors expect to look for it.
Finding Navigation Dead-Ends
A dead-end is a page that ranks high on both traffic volume and exit rate, with no dominant "next page" in the transition data — visitors arrive, don't find an obvious next step, and leave in every direction (or simply close the tab). These pages are the highest-leverage fixes in Page Flow because the traffic is already there; the only missing piece is a clear path forward. Cross-reference a suspected dead-end with a click heatmap for the same path — if the heatmap shows clicks scattered with no concentration on any single link, visitors genuinely don't know where to go next, and adding one clear, prominent link or CTA is usually enough to fix it.
